The Black Fish used a quick-strike offence to earn a second straight victory.

The team scored three times in 67 seconds early in the fourth quarter, turning a one-goal game into a 14-10 lead. And that cushion proved crucial as they hung on for the 16-14 win over the Sea Spray in Arena Lacrosse League West action at Langley Events Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams sit with 2-3 records.

The Black Fish struck for the first two goals and never trailed in the contest, with the Sea Spray twice pulling even (once at 8-8 and again at 10-10) but could never muster the go-ahead goal.

Aside from the first quarter, when the Black Fish outscored the Sea Spray 3-1, every other period was equal.

Following a Reece Barnes goal off a face-off, Ethan M’Lot struck again 14 seconds later and then with their team short-handed, Brian Gillis made it 14-10 Black Fish 53 seconds after that for what became an insurmountable lead.

M’Lot was the first star following his four-goal, seven-point outing and he was one of three Black Fish players to register hat tricks alongside Gillis and Barnes. Gillis added a trio of assists for the six-point game which was matched by third star Connor Watson (2-4). Rhys Porteous added two goals with Xander Cabeca and Aidan Murphy scoring once apiece.

Keegan Okino finished with 50 saves as the Black Fish were outshot 64-61.

James Rahe was the second star after leading the Sea Spray with a five-goal game. Trevayne Hunter (2-2) and Thomas Semple (1-4) also had big games with Ty Fisher, Kai George and Eli Batt all scoring once and setting up a pair of goals each while Darrel Hunter, Tyrell Hamer-Jackson and Seamus Bankier chipped in a goal apiece.

Lee Jackman made 45 saves on 61 shots.
