ALL VP Lance Winn a familiar Olympic voice
If you tuned in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games last night to catch the Canada vs United States Softball game, you may have caught yourself thinking "where have I heard that play by play voice before?" That voice belongs to the Arena Lacrosse League's Vice-President Lance Winn. Turns out the voice of the ALL is also very good at calling baseball as well, in fact this is Lance's eighth Olympic Games (in a variety of roles) and he shows no signs of slowing down. Lance also calls the World Men's Fastball Championships.
"I hadn't heard Lance's game call in a while prior to Lance joining the ALL," stated ALL President Paul St. John. "Lance and I go a long way back as we both grew up in the heart of Toronto and played lacrosse for St. Christopher House (which also produced one of the greatest lacrosse players of all-time in John Tavares). Over the years we had lost touch, but we followed each other paths from afar, Lance has been part of the sports industry in Toronto covering the start-up years of the Toronto Rock, many Olympic games, soccer, baseball and more on CBC, TSN and Sportsnet amongst others." St. John continued.
"The amazing thing is when Lance and I reconnected when he joined the ALL prior to our launch I hadn't penned him in as our play-by-play person as we had (and still have) Stephen Stamp and Matt Caruk who are both terrific game callers. One game both of our regulars were out and Lance stepped in and refreshed my memory of how good he is at play-by-play, so we ended up with three talented game callers." St. John added. "To hear him call the Women's Softball game at the Olympics is something special for me as a friend and also to our league, as it again solidifies the talent we have in the Arena Lacrosse League in all capacities."
You can catch Winn and his broadcast partner Allison Bradley (a former Team Canada player and a two time Olympian) Friday night (July 23) during Olympic prime time on CBC at 9:00 PM when Canada takes on Australia in Game 3 of their round robin.
